Voting Myths: I must be 18 years old to register to vote. FALSE! You can register to vote at 17 ½, but you must be 18 to vote. My vote does not count. Every vote counts, and some races are decided by small margins. Your vote matters in every election. All candidates are the same. Check out the candidates’ pages to see their positions and solutions for the issues most important to you. These could include the economy and taxes; college tuition and debt; predatory lending; abortion; healthcare; foreign policy and the military. Politicians don’t care. They care about what you care about! That’s why they campaign to get your vote. Someone will find out which candidate I voted for. No way! The Secretary of State’s office and the Elections Division go to great lengths to ensure that your vote is your business. (They even have blinders on the voting machines.) The voting process takes too much time. Requesting an absentee ballot takes less time than a round of Guitar Hero, and you won’t even have to wait in line. Find information on requesting an absentee ballot here: http://www.sos.ga.gov/ElectionCenter I don’t have a Georgia driver’s license, so I can’t vote. Student ID cards from public colleges, universities, and tech schools can be used an as an acceptable form of photo ID when voting. You can also use an out of state driver's license as long as it is valid. For more information please visit GAPhotoID.com
