ATLANTA … Secretary of State Cathy Cox announced today that Georgia’s Corporations Division is the first in the nation to offer corporate registrants the option to renew online.
    The new service further expands the agency’s already substantial suite of e-commerce offerings. Next week more than 360,000 customers with Georgia registrations will receive renewal notices with information about the online option, Ms. Cox said.
    The service, offered through a partnership with the GeorgiaNet Authority, allows customers to renew and, if necessary, update registration data online. Payment of the $15 or $25 (depending on category) renewal fee is made via credit card through a secure online interface. No additional charges apply for the online service.
    "We are excited about the customer service benefits of our new corporate e-newal service, which we believe will be a desirable option for many corporate customers," said Secretary Cox. "Our Corporations Division is already a recognized leader in business-to government e-commerce, and their work has demonstrated how technology can speed service, save costs and actually reduce staffing, even as the number of filings increase. We expect this addition to our Corporations e-commerce suite to achieve even greater efficiencies for both our customers and our agency," Ms. Cox added.
    The Corporations Division of the Georgia Secretary of State registers profit and non-profit corporations, limited liability companies and limited partnerships. The number of new annual filings has more than doubled since 1992, to 53,495 last year. The Corporations Division collected nearly $600,000 in e-commerce revenue in 1999, an amount that is expected to grow substantially this year.
