Secretary Handel Closes Qualifying for 10th Congressional District Special Election ATLANTA—Secretary of State Karen Handel closed qualifying for the 10th Congressional District today at noon. Ten candidates qualified and paid the qualifying fee of $4,950 for the special election to be held on Tuesday, June 19. If no candidate receives a majority of the vote, a run-off election will be held Tuesday, July 17. The following candidates qualified and will be placed on the ballot in alphabetical order:
The election will be held in the following counties: Banks, Clarke, Columbia, Elbert, Franklin, Greene, Habersham, Hart, Jackson, Lincoln, Madison, McDuffie, Morgan, Oconee, Oglethorpe, Putnam, Rabun, Stephens, Towns, Wilkes, and part of Richmond. The election is a non-partisan special election with no party primary. However, each candidate’s party affiliation will be listed on the ballot. All citizens residing in the 10th Congressional district who wish to vote in the special election can register to vote through May 21. Voter registration forms can be obtained at http://www.sos.state.ga.us/elections/voter_registration/voter_reg_app.htm. Polls will be open from 7:00 am until 7:00 pm on Tuesday, June 19, 2007.
