Secretary of State Cathy Cox Hosts Free “Money Counts”
Investor Education Seminar in Atlanta with Jane Bryant Quinn

ATLANTA …Secretary of State Cathy Cox today announced that she will host the fifth in a series of statewide Money Counts Investor Education Seminars in Atlanta on Tuesday, June 29, 2004.  Noted financial expert Jane Bryant Quinn will deliver the keynote address.

The seminar, designed to provide Georgians with the tools they need to make wise financial decisions and protect themselves from investment fraud, will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Cobb Galleria Centre, 2 Galleria Parkway in Atlanta.  Snacks will be provided.

The free seminar is open to the public and will cover topics of interest for all Georgians from beginners to sophisticated investors.  Attendees will have the opportunity to choose from a variety of discussion topics including retirement planning, investment fraud, choosing a stockbroker, credit management and more.

“Investor education and awareness is critical in today’s global financial environment as trends in employee retirement plans shift greater responsibility to employees,” said Secretary of State Cox.  “Many Georgians don’t consider themselves investors even though they contribute to their employer sponsored 401(K), 457, 403(B) or other investment plan. The goal of this investor education initiative is to help consumers become more comfortable with their role in planning for their future and protecting their hard-earned money from fraud,” she added.

To reserve a seat for the seminar, call 1 (888) 265-1115 or visit www.georgiainvests.org.  Co-hosts of the seminar include AARP Georgia, Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Atlanta Regional Commission, Better Business Bureau of Metropolitan Atlanta, Cobb County Chamber of Commerce, Cobb County District Attorney Pat Head, Cobb County Government, Cobb County Police Department, Cobb County Sheriff Neil Warren, Georgia Association of Chiefs of Police, Georgia Sheriffs’ Association, Metro Atlanta Chamber of Commerce and the UGA Extension Service in Cobb County.
