Secretary Cox: South Georgia Corporation Agrees To Donate
$20,305 to World Trade Center Relief Fund

ATLANTA …
An investigation by the Secretary of State’s Securities Division has led a south Georgia manufacturing company to agree to pay the New York State World Trade Center Relief Fund $20,305 in funds raised from the sale of September 11th commemorative medallions.

The company, International Agile Manufacturing, Inc. (IAM) based in Statesboro, Georgia began selling the commemorative medallions made from steel remnants taken from the wreckage of the World Trade Center in the weeks following the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on New York and Washington, D.C.

The Secretary of State’s investigation was prompted by news accounts and a campaign on the IAM website, www.iamfoundry.com, where medallions memorializing the tragedy of September 11, 2001 were offered for $19.95. During the campaign, the IAM website stated that “a portion of the proceeds from sales will be given to City of New York charities and other charities around the country.” While IAM grossed more than $200,000 from the campaign, investigators determined that none of the proceeds from the medallion campaign were directed to New York charities.

Investigators determined IAM did make charitable donations to the Bulloch County American Red Cross, Bulloch County Habitat for Humanity, Shaw University in North Carolina and the K-9 Task Force Unit in Savannah. Because the Savannah K-9 Unit was among the first cadaver units sent to New York following the September 11th attacks, IAM was given credit for this donation.

IAM has until May 20, 2003 to donate $20,305 (10% of the proceeds from the medallion campaign) to the New York State World Trade Center Relief Fund. The ongoing fund is administered by the state of New York and benefits not only the families directly affected by 9/11, but also innocent civilians, firefighters, law enforcement and relief workers.

For future medallion sales, IAM must select a currently operating charity or charities from the New York Attorney General’s list of approved charities. The IAM website will be updated to reflect the charity or charities that will directly benefit from medallion sales.
