“I am delighted that someone of Tonya Curry’s talent and ability has agreed to serve in this important position,” said Secretary Cox. Tonya’s commitment to public service, thorough knowledge of securities law and strong consumer orientation will be of great benefit to our agency. Under her leadership, the Securities Division will continue its long tradition of protecting Georgia investors,” Ms. Cox added. For the past year and a half, Ms. Curry has served as deputy director and chief enforcement attorney of the Securities and Business Regulation Division. Prior to this she held a number of management posts in state government including the Department of Community Affairs, the Department of Administrative Services and the Office of the Governor. She also served as the Local Government and Community Relations Program Manager for the Atlanta Committee for the 1996 Olympic Games (1994-1995); as a Vice President with Dillon, Read & Co. Inc. (1993); and as an Associate with the law firm of Kutak Rock, Atlanta GA (1990-1993). Ms. Curry, 44, received a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Georgetown University and a Juris Doctor degree from the Howard University School of Law. “I’m excited at the opportunity to continue in the field of public service and to help build on Georgia’s already strong reputation for investor and consumer protection,” Ms. Curry said. “With the increasing complexity of financial products and services and increased solicitation of consumers for investment opportunities, it has never been more important to have aggressive, effective enforcement of securities laws and regulations. I look forward to helping Secretary Cox carry out her objectives in these important areas,” Ms. Curry said. A resident of Peachtree City, Ms. Curry and her husband Augustus have two children. The Securities and Business Regulation Division registers intrastate securities offerings, securities salespeople, securities brokers and investment advisers. The division also has jurisdiction over perpetual care cemeteries, charities and telemarketing activities by investment companies and charitable solicitors.
