Requirements for Land Surveyor-in-Training Certification


An Applicant may qualify to take the Fundamentals of Land Surveying (FLS/LSIT) examination if the applicant:

  1. has graduated from a college or university on completion of a four year curriculum, has had a transcript evidencing such graduation provided by the college or university directly from the school to the Board [43-15-12(1)(A)], and has acquired a minimum of twenty quarter hours, or its equivalent, in acceptable land surveying subjects, five of which were earned in hydrology coursework [43-15-12(2)]; or
  2. has graduated from a college or university on completion of an associate degree or its equivalent, has had a transcript evidencing such graduation provided directly from the school to the Board, has acquired not less than two years of acceptable land surveying experience [43-15-12(1)(B)], and has acquired a minimum of twenty quarter-hours, or its equivalent, in acceptable land surveying subjects, five of which were earned in hydrology coursework][43-15-12(2)]; or
  3. has earned a high school diploma, or its equivalent, has acquired not less than four years of acceptable land surveying experience, and has acquired a minimum of twenty quarter hours, or its equivalent, in acceptable land surveying subjects, five of which were earned in hydrology coursework [43-15-12(2)]; and
  4. has made application to the Board and submitted the requisite, non-refundable, fee of $25.00 to the Board (made payable to the Secretary of State); and
  5. has made application to NCEES and submitted the requisite fee.

An applicant having met the above requirements and having passed the FLS/LSIT examination shall be certified as an Land Surveyor-in-Training.
