Actions Taken by the Georgia Board of Massage Therapy at its September Meeting

Macon, Ga.—The Georgia Board of Massage Therapy held a meeting September 4 and September 5, 2008.

The Board voted to post the following rule amendments:

  • Rule 345-1-.01. Definitions: Added language regarding acceptance of the Federation of State Boards of Massage Therapy (FSMTB) licensure exam, the Massage & Bodywork Licensing Exam (MBLEx)
  • Rule 345-3-.02. Application for Licensure Post July 1, 2007: Added language regarding acceptance of the Federation of State Boards of Massage Therapy (FSMTB) licensure exam, the Massage & Bodywork Licensing Exam (MBLEx)
  • Rule 345-4-.02. Continuing Education Hours: Clarified language regarding continuing education providers and added language regarding the retention and reporting of continuing education hours.

The Board voted to adopt the following rule amendments:

  • Rule 345-4-.03. Continuing Education Providers Seeking Board Approval: The Board will accept continuing education hours from providers who have an assigned provider code from the National Certification Board of Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (NCBTMB).
  • Rule 345-5-.01. Licensure by Endorsement: Removal of statutory language regarding endorsement to comply with the statutory change effective July 1, 2008.
  • Rule 345-6-.01. Licensure by Reciprocity: Repeal of the entire rule due to statutory changes effective July 1, 2008 eliminating licensure by reciprocity.

The Board voted to ratify the following Cease and Desist orders for unlicensed practice:

  • Chin Yoakum, Tifton
  • Gina Lee, Lake Park

The Board voted to elect Jane Johnson of Marietta as Board Chair and Kathy Lescak of Metter as Board Vice-Chair for the 2008-2009 year.

The Georgia Board of Massage Therapy will hold its next meeting Thursday, October 23 and Friday, October 24 beginning at 9:00 a.m. each day at the Professional Licensing Boards Division in Macon, Georgia.
