The Georgia Board of Examiners of Licensed Practical Nurses is a seven member board appointed by the Governor to protect, promote and preserve the public health, safety and welfare of the citizens of Georgia. The Board meets every other month to regulate fifty-five practical nursing education programs. In addition, the Board reviews applications for licensure and regulates licensed practical nurses practicing in Georgia.
The nursing programs approved by the board offer 700 hours of clinical education as well as 700 hours of theory. The majority of students completing the program and passing the board examination are licensed to practice in a wide variety of health care areas including nursing homes, doctor offices and hospitals. These Licensed Practical Nurses provide care for compensation relating to the maintenance of health and prevention of illness, under the supervision of a physician, dentist, podiatrist, or registered nurse.
Board meetings are open to the public and are generally held at the Secretary of State’s office in Macon. During the meetings, the Board reviews correspondence, applications for licensure, and complaints. Persons wishing to submit complaints or other matters for Board consideration should submit the matter in writing to the office. |
