Actions Taken by the Georgia State Board of Funeral Service at its June 9 Meeting
Macon, Ga.—The Georgia State Board of Funeral Service met on Tuesday, June 9, 2009.
A public hearing was held for the purpose of reviewing the initial decision issued by Administrative Law Judge Kristin L. Miller on February 23, 2009 in the matter of Georgia State Board of Funeral Service v. Henry Edmond Shelton, Edwin Dewan Shelton, and Hanley Shelton of Marietta. The Board voted to modify the initial decision and delivered the following final decision:
- The Board placed Hanley-Shelton Funeral Home on probation for a period of three years and fined the establishment $1,000.
- The Board suspended Henry Edmond Shelton for a period of one month and there after placed on probation for a period of three years. During the first six months of the probationary period, H.E. Shelton may not practice as Funeral Director in Full and Continuous Charge. In addition, the Board fined him $1,000.
- The Board suspended Edwin Shelton for a period of one week and there after placed on probation for a period of three years. During the first six months of the probationary period, he may not practice as Funeral Director in Full and Continuous Charge. In addition, the Board fined him $1,000.
The Board approved the following orders to accept fine money for inspection violations:
- Erwin-Petitt Funeral Home, Inc., Summerville: Fined $50 for failure to have a non-porous sanitary sink cover.
- Carmichael-Hemperley Funeral Home, Peachtree City: $50 for failure to have a non-porous sanitary sink cover.
The Georgia State Board of Funeral Service will hold its next meeting on Tuesday, July 14, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. at the Professional Licensing Boards office in Macon.
