Actions Taken by the Georgia State Board of Funeral Service at its January 13 Meeting

Macon, Ga.—The Georgia Board of Funeral Service met on Tuesday, January 13, 2009.

The Board approved the following orders to accept fine money for inspection violations and settling cases:

  • Frank & Solomon Nixon Funeral Home, Tifton: Fined $700 for unsanitary conditions.
  • Sims Funeral Home, Inc., Douglas: Fined $50 for failure to maintain a current embalmer’s license.
  • Thornton Mortuary, Atlanta: Fined $100 for failing to properly identify a deceased body.
  • Hightower’s Memorial Chapel, Douglasville: Fined $50 for failing to equip sinks a nonporous sanitary sink cover.
  • Reno Tapley Mortuary, Swainsboro: Fined $50 for failing to conspicuously display wall certificate and current renewed license.

The Board voted to ratify the following Cease and Desist Orders for unlicensed practice:

  • Lewis Sims & Son’s Funeral Home, Jackson.
  • Joseph R. Jacobs, Griffin.
