Actions Taken by the Georgia State Board of Funeral Service at its July 8 Meeting

Macon, Ga.—The Georgia State Board of Funeral Service held its monthly meeting on Tuesday, July 8, 2008.

The Board held a public hearing to render decisions on licensed establishments that refused to sign Voluntary Cease & Desist Orders presented on behalf of the Board.

  • Metro Embalming & Removal Services, Conyers:  The Board voted to acknowledge receipt of fines previously paid, accept the findings of the hearing, and close the case with no action.
  • National Cremation Society Crematory, Atlanta:  The Board voted to table the decision until the August meeting to allow the Respondent to remove potentially misleading language on its website.  The Board will render a decision based on the actions of the Respondent.

The Board accepted monies to pay fines from the following:

  • Slater’s Funeral Home, Milledgeville: Fined $50 for failure to screen outside vent openings.
  • J.W. Jones Funeral Home, Columbus: Fines totaled $150. Fined $100 for failure to display the required eight adult caskets in the display room (one casket short) and $50 for failure to have a current license on display in the establishment. 
  • Bridges’ Funeral Home, Inc., Athens: Fined $100 for failure to provide proper identification of a deceased body.
  • Rollins Funeral Home, Inc., Eastman: Fined $50 for failure to have current licenses posted at the establishment.

The Board also voted to accept the fine associated with the Consent Order previously accepted by the Board on Baxley Funeral Home and close the case.

The Georgia State Board of Funeral Service will hold its next meeting Tuesday, August 12, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. at the Professional Licensing Boards Division in Macon, Georgia.
