Actions Taken by the Georgia State Board of Funeral Service at its May 13 Meeting

Macon, Ga.—The Georgia State Board of Funeral Service held its monthly meeting on Tuesday, May 13, 2008.

The Board held a public hearing to give licensed establishments with outstanding inspection citations an opportunity to meet with the Board.

The Board voted to issue final decisions on each of the following cases:

  • Angel Heights Funeral Service, Hawkinsville: The Board levied a $500 fine because the funeral establishment was not open for investigation after several attempts, a violation of Board rules.
  • Bentley & Sons Funeral Home, Jeffersonville: The Board levied a $100 fine for failure to have one operable hearse or combination hearse/ambulance.
  • Taylor Family Funeral Service, Tifton: The Board levied fines totaling $1,350 for ten separate citations.
    • A $50 fine for failure to have all outside ventilation openings screened.
    • A $200 fine for failure to provide ventilation.
    • A $200 fine for failure to maintain establishment in clean, sound, safe and acceptable repair condition.
    • A $400 for four violations of failure to have eight adult caskets in display room.
    • A $200 fine for failure to provide information that shows each casket meets pricing requirements.
    • A $100 fine for failure to have one operable hearse or combination hearse/ambulance.
    • A $200 fine for failure to provide a written statement of costs of goods and services.

The Board approved the following orders to accept fine monies for inspection violations and settling cases:

  • King and Sons Funeral Home, Glennville: Paid a $50 fine for failure to have all outside ventilation openings screened.
  • Samuels Memorial Funeral Home, Gray: Paid a $200 fine for failure to maintain sanitary and clean instruments and tables.

The Board accepted a Voluntary Cease and Desist Order for unlicensed practice for the following:

  • J.W. Jones Funeral Home, Columbus

The Board accepted a Final Decision Order on the following:

  • Jason A. Holland, McDonough: The order revokes the Funeral Director’s license and Embalmer’s license on the recommendation of the Administrative Law Judge.

The Georgia State Board of Funeral Service will hold its next meeting Tuesday, June 17, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. at the Professional Licensing Boards Division in Macon.
