Frequently Asked Questions


(1) I lost my license.  How do I get another one?  How long will it take?  Is there a fee?

When a license is lost or stolen, you must report it to the Board immediately and request an application for a duplicate license.  The fee is $25.00.  Processing time is approximately 7 to 10 business days.

 

(2) I am licensed in another state and will be moving to Georgia.  Can I transfer my license?  How long will it take to get a license?  How much does it cost?

If you have graduated from a nursing education program, taken and passed the national licensing examination and are currently licensed in another U.S. state or territory, you may apply for a licensure by endorsement.  The application fee is $60.00.

 

(3) I am moving (or have moved) to another state and I need to send you a form to verify my license.  Is there a fee?  How long will it take?

Yes, the fee is $25.00 (Money Order, Cashier’s Check, Certified Check  or Personal Check).  The processing time  is 10-15 working days.

 

(4) How do I change my address?

All address changes must be reported to the Board within 30 days of the move.  The license number, name as it appears on the license, the old address and the new address is required.  Address changes may be submitted by mail or fax (478) 207-1660. 

(5) I just got married/divorced.  How do I change my name?

Any time your name changes, you must apply for a duplicate/replacement license and submit a copy of the legal documentation showing the change (marriage certificate, divorce decree or court order).  A fee of $25.00 is required to process the application and issue a new license.

 

(6) I took the exam days ago.  Can you tell me if I passed?  When will I receive the results?

Processing time for receiving test results and/or a license is approximately four to six weeks from the testing date.  For security purposes, the Board does not release test results over the telephone.  Once the license number has been issued, it will appear on the Board’s website.

                       

(7) I have just graduated from nursing school and am waiting to take the exam.  Can I be issued a temporary permit?

No.  You may not practice as a registered nurse until you have taken and successfully passed the national licensing examination and a license has been issued.

 

(8) I need to take a refresher course.  Do you have a list of programs that offer them?

Reentry (refresher) programs can be individualized and tailored to the environment the nurse would like to return to.  You may complete a reentry program at any healthcare facility or nursing education program, provided a license registered nurse supervises you and the reentry plan meets the established Board criteria.

 

(9) Do you require continuing education?

 No continuing education units are required to obtain or maintain RN licensure in Georgia.
