3. What are the requirements to qualify to take the geology examination?
Applicants for examination in Georgia now take the National Association of State Boards of Geology (ASBOG) national examination for registration in Georgia. The Board believes that, since the ASBOG examination is widely accepted as satisfying the examination requirement in other states, using the ASBOG examination in Georgia will facilitate reciprocity for Georgia registered geologists.
Applicants for the ASBOG examination must meet the education and work experience requirements as described in O.C.G.A. 43-19-12 and Chapter 265-4-.02 of the Rules of the Board in order to qualify to take the examination. Please refer to the Law and Rules at this website for details concerning the education and work experience requirements.
Applications are available at this website or by calling the Board office at 478/207-2440.

7. If I hold a license in another State, how may I qualify for a license in Georgia?
According to O.C.G.A. 43-19-14, an applicant for a Georgia license by reciprocity who is registered to engage in the practice of geology on the basis of comparable licensing requirements issued to him/her by proper authority of a state, territory, or possession of the United States, or the District of Columbia, and who, in the opinion of the Board otherwise meets the requirements of the Act based on verified evidence may, upon application, be registered without further examination.
Also, please refer to O.C.G.A. 43-19-25(c)(2) and Chapter 265-5-.01 of the Rules of the Board concerning the practice of geology in Georgia.
8. How do I renew my license?
Your license will expire on December 31 of each odd-numbered year. The electronic renewal application can be completed online once you receive the postcard notification that will be mailed to you. For access to the online renewal application, go to the Board’s website at HYPERLINK "http://www.sos.georgia.gov/plb/geologists" www.sos.georgia.gov/plb/geologists. You may also directly update changes to your address information online at the Board’s website. Please note that failure to receive the postcard notification does not relieve the licensee of the responsibility for timely renewal.
9. If I allow my license to expire, what should I do?
You may apply for reinstatement of your expired license by completing the reinstatement application available from the Board office and submitting it to the Board along with the appropriate fee. Any person who applies for reinstatement more than two years following expiration of the registration may be required by the Board to take and pass the geology examination as a condition for reinstatement.
Applications for reinstatement and for re-examination are available at this website or by calling the Board office at 478/207-2440.
10. Am I required to have continuing education in order to renew my license?
