Frequently Asked Questions


 

1. What are the requirements to apply for a podiatrist license?

            THE GEORGIA STATE BOARD OF PODIATRY EXAMINERS DOES  NOT ISSUE TEMPORARY PERMITS.

    • Applicant must submit a completed application with the required non-refundable fee
    • Applicant must have graduated from an accredited College of Podiatric Medicine approved by the Board
    • Applicant must submit proof of completion of one (1) year residency in podiatric medicine and surgery in a program based at a hospital approved by the American Podiatric Medical Association and the Board. (A copy of the document is acceptable.)
    • Applicant may submit certified proof of scores from the National Board of Podiatric Medical Examiners of having successfully passed the PMLexis (Podiatric Medical Licensure Examination.)
    • Applicants who submit proof of passing the PMLexis will only be required to take and pass the Practical portion of the examination
    • Applicant must hold a Doctoral degree or its equivalent

 

2. Do requirements differ if I am a graduate of a foreign school of podiatry?

All applicants must have graduated from an approved College of Podiatry in the United States.

 

3. How do I apply for the podiatry examination?

You may download the examination application or contact the Board at (478) 207-2440.

 

4. Do I have to take an examination?

Yes, each applicant submitting an application for licensure as a podiatrist in the state of Georgia must take and pass the OSCE (Objective Structured Clinical Examination.) If an applicant submits proof of passing the PMLexis this applicant will only be required to take and pass the Practical portion of the examination.

 

5. How much does it cost to obtain a license?

$195 ($50 non-refundable application fee and $145 examination fee.)

 

6. How long does it take to receive a license after sitting for the examination?

Once all documents are received, please allow 4-6 weeks to receive your license.

 

7. Does the Georgia State Board of Podiatry Examiners have reciprocity with other states?

No. The Georgia Board of Podiatry Examiners does not provide for licensure by reciprocity.

 

8.  How do I submit a name and/or address change?

The Board will accept address changes via letter or fax: (478) 207-1670.  A name change request must be submitted in writing accompanied by supporting legal documents.

 

9. What must I do to renew my license?

    • Complete the renewal application when it is mailed to you, or you may renew your license online from this website at time of renewal. ALL licenses will expire August 31st of the odd numbered years.
    • The Renewal fee is $150.
    • Attain the required number of Continuing Education hours. See Rule 500-4-.01 for specific continuing education requirements. 
    • From September 1st through November 31st of the renewal year a $150 late renewal penalty fee is assessed – totaling $300.
    • Licenses not renewed by November 31st will be revoked and require reinstatement by the Board.
    • Reinstatement of license shall be requested in writing to the Georgia State Board of Podiatry Examiners.

 

10. Do I submit my continuing education hours to the Board office?

Only those podiatrists randomly selected for Continuing Education audit must submit proof of their continuing education credits along with their renewal application. You will receive specific instructions if you are chosen for an audit.

 

11. Does the Board have Inactive Status?

If a licensee demonstrates an inability to practice podiatry due to age, physical impairment, or infirmity which time is not expected to resolve and has a current active license in good standing and isn't under administrative disciplinary action, court action or probation he/she must apply for Inactive Status in writing to the Board office. \
