Actions Taken by the Georgia Board of General and Residential Contractors at its March 26 Meeting

Macon, Ga.—The Georgia Board of General and Residential Contractors held its meeting on Wednesday, March 26, 2007.

The Board voted to post the following rules for public comment prior to the Board vote for adoption:

  • Rule 553-4-.05, Limited Tier General Contractor Types: Licensure requirements for an individual practicing as a General Contractor in the individual’s own name or doing business as an individual in a trade name or as a sole proprietorship.
  • Rule 553-4-.06, Limited Tier General Contractor Types: Licensure requirements for an individual acting as a qualifying agent for a business organization seeking to engage in the profession of General Contracting in the name of the business organization.

The Board will hold a public hearing to discuss and vote on whether to accept the proposed changes to the rules. The date of the public hearing will be posted on the Board’s website: http://sos.georgia.gov/plb/contractors/.

The Board held 73 appearances for applicants who requested that the Board reconsider the denial of their licenses. The Board overturned and approved 32 applications for licensure and upheld the denial of 21 applications for licensure. Ten applications will be voted on at a later date. Ten applicants did not attend their scheduled appearances.

The Residential Division voted on the remaining 18 appearances from the March 12, 2008 Residential Division Committee Meeting. The Residential Division overturned and approved eight applications for licensure and upheld the denial of nine applications for licensure. One application will be voted on at a later date.

The Georgia Board of General and Residential Contractors will hold its next meeting on Wednesday, April 2, 2008, at 9 a.m. at the Professional Licensing Boards in Macon.
