Amendments to O.C.G.A. § 50-36-1 become effective January 1, 2012.  After December 31, 2011, Georgia law will require all applicants for licensure, and all those applying for renewal of an existing license, to submit secure and verifiable documentation with their application.  Please consider filing your renewal application on or before December 31, 2011 as this will expedite your renewal.  A list of the approved Secure and Verifiable Documents may be found on this page or on the Attorney General’s website. The Georgia Auctioneers Commission consists of six members who are appointed by the Governor. Five of the members are licensed auctioneers and one member is a consumer member with no connection to the practice or profession of auctioneering. The Commission meets at least 8 times a year at the Secretary of State’s office in Macon and meetings are open to the public. Persons wishing to bring matters for the Commission’s consideration should submit written notification or request to the office.

The Commission has the authority to regulate the issuance of licenses, to revoke or suspend licenses issued and to censure licenses for any violation of the law. Any person desiring to act as an auctioneer and/or operate an auction company must first meet the requirements of the law and rules and be licensed with the Commission.

The law provides for a full time inspector with full inspection rights and privileges regarding all auctions conducted in the state

IMPORTANT NOTICE REGARDING EXAMINATIONS

Beginning October 1, 2009, the Georgia Auctioneer Law and Rules Examination will be administered by PSI.  Scheduling and payment for exams will be made directly with PSI after October 1.  More information will be available prior to October 1 regarding contact information for PSI.

The Georgia Auctioneers Commission has authorized the adjustment of the application/exam fee to reflect the fact that the Professional Licensing Boards Division will no longer collect the examination fee.  The new application fee for auctioneer licensure is $50.00.  Please download and complete the current auctioneer application on our website.  Do not use an older version of the application.

Applicants for licensure by reciprocity are not required to take the Auctioneer Law & Rules Exam; however, if the Commission determines that reciprocity will not be granted, applicants will be notified in writing that they will need to successfully complete the examination to obtain a license.
