Direct Record Electronic (DRE) Voting Systems Pilot Project

The Secretary of State has been authorized by the passage of Senate Bill 213 "to conduct a pilot project to test and evaluate the use of electronic recording voting systems during the 2001 municipal elections." [O.C.G.A §21-2-301(a)] This project is designed to gain valuable information regarding new forms of voting technology. The information obtained from this test will help state decision makers determine what type of equipment will be used to create a uniform system of voting in all of Georgia's 159 counties by July 2004. The oversight commission created to monitor this project is the 21st Century Voting Commission.
