When? |
| |
Voters are encouraged to take advantage of voting by mail-in ballot , absentee ballot in person at their county registrar’s office, or voting during advance voting week. Voting by one of these methods prior to Election Day decreases the possibilities for long lines and wait times.
Voters can request a mail-in ballot from their county registrar by submitting an application. Mail-in ballot and early voting will begin on September 22, 2008. On this day, requested mail-in ballots will be mailed and voters can vote absentee in-person at their county registrar’s office.
Advance voting week will occur October 27-31, 2008. Please click here for information on advance voting times and locations in your county.
On November 4, 2008, polls are open from 7:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. However, any voter who is waiting in line at 7:00 p.m. will be allowed to vote. Voters are encouraged to avoid peak voting hours, which historically see high turnout and long lines. Peak voting hours are from 7:00 a.m. until 9:30 a.m.; 4:30 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.; and during the midday lunch hour. |

Where? |
| |
On November 4, 2008, each voter must vote at the polling place designated for the precinct in which the voter lives. The location of your polling place is listed on your precinct card. If you have misplaced your card or do not know where your precinct is located, please use our poll locator. |
 |
How? |
| |
Each voter will complete a voter certificate when entering their polling place.
The poll worker will request to see one of the required forms of photo ID from the voter, then mark on the voter's certificate the type of ID displayed. The poll worker will verify that the voter is the person pictured on the ID and verify that the voter is in the correct voting location. Then, the poll worker will place a voter access card into the ExpressPoll unit, encoding the card with the ballot. The voter will be directed to a voting unit to cast their ballot as shown on instructions posted in each voting booth.
If a voter does not have one of the required forms of photo ID, or if the voter's name cannot be located on the voter's list, such voter will be allowed to cast a provisional ballot. Instructions on the provisional balloting process will be displayed at each voting location. |
