The constitution of 1945 was the first state constitution in the United States proposed by a commission instead of a constitutional convention. It was presented as a resolution (H.R. No. 11) to the General Assembly which replaced, in one single amendment, all articles and amendments of the 1877 constitution. The new constitution was approved in a special election on August 7, 1945, and went into effect on August 13. Below is the Preamble, the Bill of Rights (Article 1) and the signatures and label providing information about resolution reading and passage in both houses.
