Capitol Museum Virtual Tour: Gilding the Dome

The original dome was painted to resemble the surrounding stone.
Major renovations to the Capitol in the late 1950s included stabilizing and gilding the dome.
A second gilding occurred in 1979.
Recently gilders have completed a fresh application of gold.
