State Archives

The Archives maintains the permanent historical records of state agencies and can assist with research on laws, agency policies, and historical questions.

State Records Center

The State Records Center maintains temporary records on behalf of state agencies on a cost‐recovery basis. Records in the State Records Center remain the property of the transferring agency at all times and access is restricted to authorized agency personnel. Permanent records may not be stored at the Center without prior authorization from the Director of the Division of Archives and History.

Media Security Vault

State agencies and local governments may store backup copies of images and data in the Media Security Vault. Security film is maintained only for the benefit of government officials who create it. The Georgia Archives does not provide copies of security film to anyone other than the officials who deposited it in the Archives for safekeeping. The security film is protected with the highest level of security and stored in temperature‐and humidity‐controlled storage to ensure that it is available should the official need it. In addition to microfilm, the Georgia Archives accepts other media (CDs, DVDs, magnetic tape) for security storage. For further information about the Security Media Storage Vault, please read the following policies and procedures carefully and then call RIMS at 678‐364‐3790 or 678‐364‐3795 or email us at RIMS [@] sos.state.ga.us to discuss the Vault.
