Actions Taken by the Georgia Board of Nursing at its March 16-17 Meeting

Macon, Ga.—The Georgia Board of Nursing met on Wednesday and Thursday, March 16-17, 2011.

The Board voted to post the following rule:

  • Rule 410-12-.05 Rules for Clinical Nurse Specialists, Psychiatric/Mental Health. Amended

     
The Board moved, based upon a passing of first-time NCLEX-RN writers of less than 80 percent in 2010, but with a three year average of at least 80 percent, Albany State University must submit a written assessment of the NCLEX-RN performance and plan of action to the board office no later than April 7, 2011 for review at the Board’s May 11-12, 2011 meeting. [410-3-.02 (2)(b)]

The Board moved, based upon a four-year cumulative average of first-time NCLEX-RN writers for Brenau University, the following actions be taken:

  • Based upon a passing percentage of first-time NCLEX-RN writers of less than 80% over the four most recent calendar years (2007-2010), Conditional Approval is imposed upon the baccalaureate nursing program at Brenau University. [410-3-.02 (3)]
  • Brenau University must submit a written assessment of the NCLEX-RN performance and plan of action of to the board office no later than April 7, 2011 for review at the Board’s May 11-12, 2011 meeting. [410-3-.02 (2)(b)]
  • A site visit will be scheduled to Brenau University during the 2011-2012 academic years. [410-3-.01 (8)]

The Board moved, based upon a passing of first-time NCLEX-RN writers of less than 80 percent in 2010, but with a four-year average of at least 80 percent, Dalton State College must submit a written assessment of the NCLEX-RN performance and plan of action to the board office no later than April 7, 2011 for review at the Board’s May 11-12, 2011 meeting. [410-3-.02 (2)(b)]

The Board moved to accept the written assessment of the 2010 NCLEX-RN performance and plan of action submitted by Georgia Health Sciences University for its prelicensure master’s clinical nurse leader program. [410-3-.11 (2); 410-3-.02 (2)(b)]

The Board moved based upon a four-year cumulative average of first-time NCLEX-RN writers for West Georgia Technical College, the following actions be taken:

  • Based upon a passing percentage of first-time NCLEX-RN writers of less than 80 percent over the four most recent calendar years (2007-2010), Conditional Approval is imposed upon the associate nursing program at west Georgia Technical College. [410-3-.02 (3)]
  • West Georgia Technical College must submit a written assessment of the NCLEX-RN performance and plan of action of to the board office no later than April 7, 2011 for review at the Board’s May 11-12, 2011 meeting. [410-3-.02 (2)(b)]
  • A site visit will be scheduled to West Georgia Technical College during the 2011-2012 academic year. [410-3-.01 (8)]

The Board accepted the recommendations and commendations from the December 7, 2010 through December 8, 2010 West Georgia Technical College Site Visit Report.

The Board moved, based upon March 16-17, 2011 Report I responses submitted by Atlanta Technical College, that the following actions be taken:

  • In order for the responses to Report I to be considered, Atlanta Technical College must provide a written explanation of the response to recommendation (2)(d). [410-4-.01 (4)(5);410-3-.05 (4)]
  • The response to (1) must be received in the board office no later than April 7, 2011 for review at the Board’s May 11-12, 2011 meeting. [410-3-.11 (2)]

The Board moved to accept the response submitted by the College of Coastal Georgia to its June 15-16, 2010 prelicensure BSN site visit report. [410-3-.11 (2)]

The Board moved to accept the response submitted by the Gwinnett Technical College to its July 7-8, 2010 site visit report. [410-3-.11 (2)]

The Board accepted the following public consent orders/agreements:

  • Lori Clements, Bloomingdale: Public Consent Order for Action in Another Jurisdiction: felony drug conviction.

The Georgia Board of Nursing will hold its next meeting on April 6, 2011 at the Professional Licensing Boards Division in Macon.
