Actions Taken by the Georgia Board of Nursing at its March 19-21 Meeting

Macon, Ga.—The Georgia Board of Nursing held its bi-monthly meeting Wednesday, March 19 through Friday, March 21, 2008.

The Board voted to take the following actions regarding approved nursing programs:

• Accept the responses to the January 31- February 1, 2008 Site Visit Report submitted by the Associate Degree Nursing Program at Augusta State University.
• Grant developmental approval to Shorter College for the development and implementation of a pre-licensure baccalaureate nursing program to begin in August 2010.
• Accept Bainbridge College’s responses to the June 27-28, 2007 site visit report and continued initial approval of the nursing program for another year.
• Extend full approval through December 31, 2012 to the Associate Degree Nursing Program at Athens Technical College.
• Grant full approval through December 31, 2011 to the Clinical Nurse Leader Program at the Medical College of Georgia.
• Grant developmental approval to Augusta Technical College for the development and implementation of an Associate Degree Nursing Program to begin in September 2010.
• Accept Clayton State University’s written assessment and plan of action in response to the Board’s January 16-18, 2008 recommendation.

The Board voted to approve the following re-appointments to the Education Committee:

• June Goyne, Columbus State University
• Joyce Johnson, Albany State University
• Charlotte Price, Augusta State University
• Deborah Ryan, Emory University

The Board voted to approve the following appointments to the Education Committee:

• Jean Bartels, Georgia Southern University, replacing Jean Mistretta, Georgia Perimeter College
• Cecilia Owens, West Central Technical College, replacing Sylvia McDonald, Athens Technical College

The Board voted to accept the following Public Consent Orders:

• Kathleen Jane Chenoweth, Hartwell: Violation of Consent Order.
• Sandra Rice Kennedy, Stockbridge: Violation of Consent Order.
• Lisa Joann McLendon, Phenix City, AL: Chemical Dependence.
• Sherry Darlene Murphy, Phenix City, AL: Violation of Consent Order.

The Board voted to accept the voluntary surrender of licenses from the following:

• Joseph Dana Bowers, Savannah
• Karen Levey, Austell
• Sandra Ann Gardner Simons, Acworth

The Georgia Board of Nursing will hold its next meeting on Wednesday, May 14 through Friday, May 16, 2008, beginning at 10 a.m. at the Professional Licensing Boards in Macon.
