We will respond to your mail reference request as soon as possible. Current turnaround time is three to four weeks. In the meantime,
this page lists some resources that may help you, depending on your reference request.
The Georgia Archives has extensive holdings of original records, microfilm copies of many pre-1900 county records, published lists, indexes, abstracts, and other guides to these sources. These holdings document the lives of Georgians since our founding in 1733, but they rarely extend into the 20th century unless that Georgian served in a public office or in World War II.
The Georgia Archives is not authorized or staffed to provide genealogical research or to verify family relationships; our primary function is to provide access to the records for your research. We encourage you to visit the Georgia Archives so that we may assist you.
If you cannot visit the archives you may wish to obtain the services of a professional researcher. The Georgia Archives does not endorse researchers, but these links are provided for your convenience:
Staff will conduct limited searches of the records described on the mail reference form and provide limited copies (additional fees may apply at $0.30 per copy). Fees for this service are $15.00 for Georgia residents and $30.00 for out-of-state residents. All fees are non-refundable, regardless of outcome of the search.
Each search request requires a separate form and a separate check/money order for the appropriate fee. To request a search, please complete the mail reference form(s) for your search(s), print, and mail to the address on the form along with your check(s) or money order(s). The Georgia Archives cannot take research requests via e-mail or fax.
